Discover the last remnants of Little Germany - once the largest concentration of German speakers outside the Germans Lands. St Georges German Lutheran Church is the oldest German church in Britain and was built for religious refugees fleeing parts of what is today Germany. Catholics fled from other, Protestant, areas before German Unification too. So, in the 18th century you were as likely to hear German spoken in the streets of Aldgate and Whitechapel as you are to hear Urdu or Gujurati today.
Guides will be on hand to explain the history of the church. This event is part of Heritage Open Days.
